Humans Being Amazing.

Just to prove that I am not all doom and gloom, I thought I'd post something to make you smile, or cause your jaw to drop in wonder.

Set aside a few minutes and marvel at these incredibly talented people.

Practice makes perfect CR. It's not really about talent as everyone has it - it's called dedication and perseverance.

People may say that the above is not true in that great singers are born great singers. That, as a singer myself is bollox. The larynx is like any other instrument and needs to be practiced in order to be played.

These people are certainly very good at their chosen activities, although the guy running on water is absolutely bollocks. His weight is just too much for the water too hold. In order for him to have taken his first step he would have needed at least some weight with which to push against. Water doesn't have that weight, hence why we sink.

Wonderful stuff. If you don't mind me adding a little something then this video makes me smile, especially when I remember HG Wells' famous quote "When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race."

Humans are amazing. All the more baffling, then, that some people claim humans can't function properly without a big state to guide them. (Funny enough, most of those feats would have been prohibited by government).

Oh yeah, and the bowling one? I've done that. ;)

@Dick: Totally agree that's why it's so damned infuriating.

@Harbinger: To a point, yes, but I could practice and persevere from now until the rapture and I still wouldn't be able to do stuff like that. There has to be some talent in there somewhere.

Joe,

"I could practice and persevere from now until the rapture and I still wouldn't be able to do stuff like that."

You could, that's the point, however you couldn't purely by the fact that psychologically you've already defeated yourself. Until you're 100% you're going to suceed you're going to fail.

A prime example is rugby. We've got great rugby players, far more than Australia, NZ or South Africa, but they lose because they've already lost the game psychologically before the game's started.

It was the same when opponents faced Navaratalova, Sampras, Steve Davis, all the greats in many sports. It's all to do with psychological conditioning as well and you have to pretty much keep telling yourself you're the best and there's no one better.

The things these people are doing takes time, but most of them are young, which means they started off early. Like a young tree it bends, older trees it's harder. You've got to start young really to be the best as it gets harder as you get older.
